Clear/Pink half overheated... what to do.

How can something half overheat, you say.

Well, I have had my clear/pink on a timer for awhile. 7.5 on, 4.5 off. It was working just fine and then last night comes. I noticed it was pretty darn hot in the house... not terrible but maybe 70 whereas usually my house doesn't get above 65 in the winter.

My wife points out that my pink just stopped flowing. I look over at it and it's mounding pretty good and acting like it wants to lava but it can't. I take another closer look and there is water flow on one side of the lava. I lift the globe and the wax has COMPLETELY separated from one half of the coil. The other half of the coil is still covered in lava and the lava is still completely holding onto that piece of coil.

So I turned it off and got on here looking for advice. I found two pieces, let me share the cliff-notes version for you.

1. If wax separates completely from the coil, your SOL... gotta take out the liquid and the wax, scrub the death out of the coil and the inside of the globe, then put it all back together.

That stinks, but the wax was only HALF separated from the coil... so, um...

2. Turn it off and let the wax come back down. Put the globe on a flat surface and turn it until the wax gets back into the coil. Let it cool down and resolidify. Keep going because you'll be fine.

This is what I ended up doing. I'm a little freaked out about it all though. If it started overheating when the temp was 70, what's it going to do when it's 75 in the room?

Am I going to have to clean the coil or should it all work out?

I just bought a swirl off of ebay. When it arrived it was terribly yellowed from smoke/nicotine. This one is so bad, that I have tried several cleaners (windex, lysol, etc) to remove the staining, with no success. Any suggestions?

Is there anything that will remove the stains? (though I think it is in the paint, not just on)

Should I just paint over it?

Should I just toss it?
