model: The Coach Lantern
manufacturer: Mathmos & Lava-Simplex
first production: 70s (?)
comments: This fine, fine lamp is
perfect for you outdoor types. I know I've had some camping experiences
where this mood enhancer would've been thoroughly enjoyed! purrrr...
The nicest version has a copper finish and
was made by Mathmos of England, the
holder of the English or European patent. They call them "Astro Lamps®"
and they call french fries "chips" and they call...
Haggerty made the lantern also, but
the finish is brass and, in my humble opinion, the quality of metal work
inferior.
A big OozingGoo thanks goes to out to Jeff Goo for this wonderful pic (above) of his 3 Coach Lanterns in his lava lamp collection.
At left, notice the detail on the Mathmos base. The trim lines just below the globe, and the metal cap (presumably to add more pretend "oil" to
your lantern) are at times missing from the Lava-Simplex versions. |
