model: Encounter Lava Lamp
manufacturer: Haggerty
first production: 90s custom
comments: This lava lamp is really something special. They are custom
jobs for the Encounter restaurant at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport.) They pick up on the jetsonesque theme
of the restaurant by the famous architect, Paul Williams. The building was finished in the 50s and renovated in the
nineties. That's when these saucer-shaped lamps were commissioned. The finish is stainless steel and the globe is actually
the same that the Giant Lava Lamp uses. There are a total of 6 in the restaurant; 3 cream/blue and 3 red/clearish.
I think that there may be a few more in existence since I saw one in the background of a photo taken of the restaurant renovation desinger (on his end table at home!)
Lucky dog.
